HOME OF TEAM 700

Nanaimo Boxing Club is proud to be Home of Team 700. Team 700 is British Columbia’s first competitive Indigenous youth boxing team which began as a shared vision between Ivy Richardson and the Nanaimo Indigenous Youth Advisory Council. Ivy asked the youth on the council to give some thoughtful reflection on what name to choose - they decided on Team 700.

700 is the approximate number of youth who age out of government care each year in BC (although the number is now closer to 1000). The youth on council all had shared lived experience in government care so the name carried great meaning collectively. In the spirit of how we received our name Team 700 gives priority spots to Indigenous youth who have lived government care experience.

Team 700 is a family. It is a space in which Indigenous youth can attain tools that they need to successfully navigate life. It is a safe space, an outlet, and above all it is a space where Indigenous youth can aspire to greatness, inside and outside of the ring, while exemplifying Indigenous excellence.

Hi friends,

In September 2023 we reopened the Nanaimo Boxing Club doors as the new owners. We are both extremely excited and proud to be a part of Nanaimo Boxing Clubs long standing legacy of supporting our community through the sport of boxing.

Nanaimo Boxing Club is committed to creating a community of passionate individuals who embrace boxing as a means to achieve physical fitness, mental, emotional and spiritual strength and personal growth. Through quality coaching, inclusive programming, and a supportive environment, we aim to empower our members to reach their fullest potential, both inside and outside of the ring.

We are deeply committed to creating safe, inclusive and professional boxing programs for all ages and stages. Our community and athletes come first in all that we do. With a combined 30 years of boxing experience we feel confident we will be an asset to have in your corner. Whether you walk through the doors looking for community, to reach new fitness goals, you have a desire to compete or you want to take your skills to a new level. We are prepared to support you to excel at all levels.

We can't wait to welcome you in!

I reached out to Ivy for a private session because I knew she was capable of holding a safe, trauma-informed space that would support my movement practice, and through that, my healing. As someone with no experience in boxing, she made this movement accessible, relatable, and joyful. I am grateful for her ability to offer a genuine, compassionate, understanding approach that met me where I needed to be. Her energy is a gift and her passion for sport, movement, and community shines through every aspect of what she does.

What a pro! I learned so much and felt comfortable coming with no real experience. Had a blast and what a workout...you just can’t do that to yourself. Great women, great experience. Thank you, Ivy.

Joining Ivy's boxing class was one of the best decisions Ive ever made for myself. Every single class I have taken with her I ended up leaving in such a better place . Her classes have helped me with my mental and physical health. Ivy is patient and is really good at explaining the combinations and moves to help you succeed. Ivys inviting energy and smile have helped me come out of my comfort zone and achieve my goals of learning to box and taken me to a whole new level of fitness. I highly recomend Ivy as a coach and trainer she will never disappoint.
